About Us

Wherever man has left his footprint in the long ascent from barbarism to civilization we will find the hoof print of the horse beside it.

The idea of hay and feed assistance has been around for a while, and was actually in practice within various rescue organizations throughout the state, but on a smaller, localized and very limited scale.

During a brainstorming session of an ad hoc group of individuals from rescue organizations, breed groups, veterinarians, state officials, law enforcement agencies, equine media, and concerned citizens in Bend, on October 22, 2008, the proposition was given new life.

We are not affiliated with, or administered by any national organization. We are an ongoing outreach program of the Equamore Foundation, in cooperation with  Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, Inc.

Our mission is a simple one; provide a means of support for struggling, but responsible horse owners. By making options available, we can keep horses with their owners, thus keeping them out of rescue.

We have carefully kept track of the numbers and data so that we could accurately measure success or failure. The bottom line is that 99.4% of the horses we have served through the Oregon Hay Bank are still with their owners.

The Oregon Hay Bank is proof positive that a small number of concerned, motivated people can make a difference.
